3M License Plate Reference Guide Published

Each year, hundreds of new license plate designs appear on North American highways. Police face an impossible challenge to identify them quickly and reliably, and to distinguish legitimate plates from counterfeit or expired plates.

The first source for current and reliable information

The 2006-07 License Plate Reference Guide answers this need with an informative reference. Developed for 3M Traffic Safety Systems, the guide comes in the form of an 8.5” x 11” card illustrating the most widely-used plates in North America on the front. On the flip side are detailed, full-color illustrations of all 2006 and 2007 plate decals. The guide also lists which jurisdictions issue plates singly, and which in pairs, and describes the latest security devices, developed by 3M, used on license plates.

3M turns to the License Plate Information Center for current, accurate information

“This guide is unique in that we used real license plates--not sample plates or drawings. Remember the old charts the U.S. Department of Transportation used to put out the ’70s and ’80s? It's like that, only even more informative,” said Michael Wiener, marketing director of the License Plate Information Center.

“At the inception of the project, we were struck by the vast amount of incorrect information being spread by amateur websites and outdated brochures,” adds John Northup, the Center’s creative director. “By going directly to the individual state and provincial motor vehicle agencies, we were able to assemble a truly authoritative guide for our client.”

The 2007-08 edition is in development and will be available July 2007.
